Here at MijMoj we design and hand craft a range of unique wooden gifts and home accessories in our North Wales studio workshop. Each product is lovingly hand finished therefore always unique, making every customer purchase that little bit special. Our passion is developing useful design led interior products, that have been lovingly crafted and built to last by our small team of dedicated craftsman, which is visible throughout our work.

Background

MijMoj Design Limited is owned and run by business partners and designers Gafyn Owen and Sean Nelson.

MijMoj was established in 2006 by Gafyn Owen a passionate designer maker, who trained as a product designer at University. Having graduated with a 1st Class BA (Hons) design degree in 2001, has worked in the design industry ever since. This is also where Gafyn and Sean Nelson met, who collaborated on many projects whilst studying at University. They both went our separate ways after graduating to hone their design skills working in industry as professional designers.

In 2006 the opportunity to convert outbuildings into a workshop was made available to Gafyn, so the opportunity was made best use of with the building kitted out with woodworking machinery, work benches and studio space. This has provided MijMoj with an operational studio / workshop with space to develop, explore and experiment with different materials, forms and construction techniques, to create innovative and individual pieces of furniture and products. From these humble beginnings a small design and make business crafting bespoke furniture and personalised gifts. After developing a small range of items and selling in shows, fairs and online, the business quickly grew and gained a reputation for quality and design innovation. The business even picked up several business and design awards along the way!

As the business grew it was evident that MijMoj needed more staff to help with managing and making our increasing range of personalised items. In 2012 Sean joined the business as a partner bringing further design and manufacturing expertise. We have since further developed, refined and extended our range of personalised gifts and products, to offer a comprehensive design led range of personalised gifting products.

MijMoj was shortlisted as one of only 5 partners in the www.notonthehighstreet.com ‘Make Awards ‘Partner of the Year’ in 2017 & ‘Driving Commercial Success’ in 2019, Designer of the Year 2024, and also won the Daily Post 2017 ‘Business of the Year’ (under 10 employees).

Approach

Here at MijMoj we try and come up with new and novel ideas for our customers and take design inspiration from all areas of life, including the latest technology and consumer products, through to fashion and architecture. It has allowed us to develop unique product concepts and solutions for our clients, combining different materials and construction methodology, including the latest CAD/CAM technology and more traditional cabinet making / craft techniques. Every project is different but we always make sure we only use carefully selected materials that will last.

An understanding and consideration to both form and function are strong guiding principles to effective design, so that is what we follow here at MijMoj, ensuring every piece we design is user friendly and aesthetically pleasing.
